The Colony High School Reviews

This school has been a horrible experience for my child. After countless parent teacher meetings and meetings with staff they have done little to show they care about anything other then attendance and testing. Several of my childs teachers wait 3-4 weeks before putting grades in the books, so if there is a problem or missing assignment by the time you find out its too late to fix it. Tardies over 5 minutes are counted as full unexcused absenses and get 3 of those in a 4 week period they send you to court! Everytime we have gone up to the court there has been 50+ kids up there waiting for their turn. This is quite a lucritive business for them. As for clubs if your not into sports you are compleatly out of luck. There is no A/V, computer, art, or pop culture clubs. Overall horrible.

This school is really great, my daughter really excelled and was in the advanced program. She was very happy with her teachers.

TCHS does nothing to challenge its students. Graduates leave school with remedial reading & comprehension skills, and their required math assesment levels are close to 5th grade achievement.

I have enjoyed having 2 students go through TCHS. I have been actively involved in the PTSA and many booster clubs. This school encourages parent involvement. Both children were able to get into their college of choice due to their excellent academic records. The choir is absolutely amazing and is well known around the area. Many students receive gold medals in competitions and they travel (optional). I have really enjoyed the teachers and highly recommend this high school.

This school or any lisd school has no respect for students with illnesses or any medical condition. They wanted to send my child to pass because he could not be quite with a tic!

My daughter graduated from TCHS. I believe they did an excellent job in preparing her for college. She got accepted to several great colleges and Universities and all three military acadmeies. I think they have an excellent JROTC program and Col White should be commended in his work with the children.

I have had two children graduate from TCHS, and the possibility of one more in a couple of years. However, my family in considering moving. I have become increasing concerned about the drug use at this school and the apathy of the faculty and community about this problem. I am aware there are problems with drugs nationwide it just seems so prevalent here. Sad because I really wanted to stay here.

The teachers are really there to help the students and are very involved in what the students are doing. The patents are the most involved I have ever seen before. The PTSA is also one of the best I have ever seen. All the parents and students are in it for all the right reasons. As a student of TCHS I would have to say that it is the best high school ever. I am probably bias because it is my school, but it is a really good school. The athletics department may not be winning as much as we would like, but the students just enjoy being on the team because of the positive atmosphere around it. The orchestra program is one of the best in the district and the band and choir are right up there. GO TCHS!

Maybe it's because my opinion is a little skewed, a little too bias, but I feel the school has become more and more about rules and confinement, rather than about learning and expression. I feel a school should be an area children should be comfortable in, a place they actually (on some level) don't mind going to. I feel the administrators have made The Colony High School overly strict on subjects unrelated to an educational atmosphere.

I have had 2 kids graduate from this school, and 1 presently attending. I believe that the academics are strong; the environment is safe and conducive to learning. My kids have done very well on TAAS exams, TAKS exams, and AP exams. There are a lot of very good schools in the Dallas area. While TCHS may not be as good as, say, Highland Park or Coppell High schools, it is, nevertheless, a good school where students can learn as much as they are driven to learn.

TCHS has an awesome orchestra program. I just wish it would get more recognition from LISD. The orchestra director is one of the best by far! I have 2 children in orchestra and they love it. He works them, but they respect the fact that he knows what they are capable of and gets them to perform music they never dreamed of. You can tell the director loves his job and loves working with his students. That is where success starts! Great job, Mr.G !

My son attended TCHS for 2 years. We had to remove him and place him in a charter school. I am very disappointed with this school.

I am extremely unhappy with the fact that TCHS has not had more National Merit Scholariship Finalists in the past several years. All the other LISD schools do. I would say that alone speaks volumes at how poorly the school performs. It would also help if teachers were kept track of when they start their positions. It seems like they are just hired and then let loose with very little accountablity. My experiences trying to get anyone to do anything have gotten nowhere. I have only gotten a white washed reply that this teacher or that is the best teacher in that area. I don't understand how every teacher there can be the 'best' when the other schools perform so much better.

My kids have loved the school; four of them so far, have gone on to college degrees, graduate school, and success. Not easy, but academically strong.

I think The Colony High School is the poor step-child of LISD. It is an outstanding High School with many great teachers and a really nice student body. TCHS lost several good teachers this Spring. But the students are a wonderful mix of race, religion, language, intelligence and personality.

Good community involvement. Lots of activities for the students.

As a parent I would rate this as average. Most of the teachers are patient and willing to spend time with your child in order for him/her to learn.

The Colony High School Band is Incredible!I understand that it is an extra-curricular activity,nevertheless-a class.I found out how expensive it is to just sign up and join, besides the instrument, private lessons, fees, etc. I have to say I'm not rich enough for my kids to be a part of this Great Band. And the only ones who suffer are my kids-and society if I don't find something else for them to do that I can afford.

My kids attend TC, but not for long. They are new and can go a whole week with out a teacher, student, principal or anyone even acknowledging them. They can miss school and no one even calls to find out where they were. They often get in the car to say no one said a whole word to me all day. I can walk into check them out for an appt. and just tell them I need to pick up my kids, they don't even ask for identification.

The Colony High School is a wonderful high school that provides a fun atmosphere and exclent teachers, that not only educate, but entertain the students. Not only are the extracurricular teams and clubs well recognized, but they also have an extraordinary theatre department, sending many students to colleges like NYU and Northwestern. I am very proud of this school!

TC is a great school. The teachers really care that you succeed. The staff and students are very friendly. The extracurricular activities are awesome! the include #1 in state jrotc, band, cheerleaders and dance team, topcats.

The principal is very interested in the students. He works hard to see that all students get busy with something like sports, or band, and he is extremely interested in all students succeeding in academics. The teachers are very helpful when a student is having trouble, and their before and after school tutoring helps. The community supports the school and turnout at games is tremendous. The school has award winning ROTC, Band, Topcats, and Cheerleaders. It has award winning sports programs as well. Academically it has several merit scholars to its credit.
